other elements found in the building design, as established by the Design Review Board and! or<br />

Staff. Integration shall also include the use <strong>of</strong> graphics that are consistent in terms <strong>of</strong> lettering style,<br />

color, and method <strong>of</strong> attachment as used for wall- mounted signing found on the building.<br />

In no case shall any such sign be secured with wires or strips <strong>of</strong> wood which are visible and not as<br />

an integral part <strong>of</strong> the sign. Nonstructural trim may be <strong>of</strong> wood, metal, approved plastic or any<br />

combination there<strong>of</strong>.<br />

3.32 Placement <strong>of</strong> Signs<br />

A. Except as provided herein, signs are prohibited on public properties, including rights <strong>of</strong>way;<br />

and are subject to immediate removal, No person, firm, or corporation shall erect or<br />

cause to be erected any sign in such a manner that would project over any public<br />

sidewalk, street, alley, or public place without consent <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong> Council,<br />

B. No sign or structure shall be erected in such a manner that any portion <strong>of</strong> its surface or<br />

supports will obstruct any door, fire escape, stairway, or any opening, exit, or standpipes<br />

intended to provide ingress or egress to or from building or structure.<br />

C. The lowest portion <strong>of</strong> any sign, which extends over an area intended for pedestrian use<br />

shall not be less than eight (8) feet above the finished grade below the sign. The lowest<br />

point <strong>of</strong> any sign) which extends over an area intended for vehicular use shall not be less<br />

than fourteen (14) feet above the finished grade below the sign.<br />

D. A sign shall not be placed on any property without written consent <strong>of</strong> the owner or<br />

owner's authorized agent.<br />

E. No part <strong>of</strong> a sign may protrude into the specified sign setback<br />

F. No sign shall obstruct traffic by obstructing the vision <strong>of</strong> motorists as determined by the<br />

Traffic Engineer.<br />

G. No sign shall be erected or attached to any vehicle except for signs painted directly on the<br />

surface <strong>of</strong> the vehicle. The primary use <strong>of</strong> such vehicles shall be in operation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

business and not advertising or identifying the business premises. Unless parked in a<br />

designated parking space, the vehicle shall not be parked in the right-<strong>of</strong>-way;<br />

3.33 Maintenance <strong>of</strong> Signs<br />

Maintenance shall be defined as the replacement or repair <strong>of</strong> a part or portion <strong>of</strong> a sign, resulting<br />

from the ordinary wear, tear, or damage beyond the control <strong>of</strong> the owner, with the same material,<br />

color, and design. It shall be unlawful for any person to maintain or permit to be maintained on any<br />

premise owned or controlled by said person any sign 'which is in a damaged or deteriorated<br />

condition and constitutes a danger or hazard to public safety, or a visual blight. Any damaged,<br />

deteriorated, or weakened component, shall be promptly repaired or replaced. Surface materials<br />

shall be kept free <strong>of</strong> chipping, peeling, fading, or rusting detectable from beyond the lot<br />

boundaries. Components constructed <strong>of</strong> natural or artificial materials shall be free <strong>of</strong> cracks, holes,<br />

buckles, warps, and splinters detectable from beyond the lot boundaries. Maintenance<br />

requirements for electrical signs and electrical systems include, but are not limited to, prompt<br />

removal and replacement <strong>of</strong> all defective bulbs, fluorescent tubes, neon or other inert gas light<br />

segments, damaged or deteriorated electrical wiring, and malfunctioning control devices and<br />

related circuitry. Any sign in violation <strong>of</strong> this section shall be removed or repaired by the owner or<br />

lessee <strong>of</strong> the sign or the owner or lessee <strong>of</strong> the premises.<br />
