INSTRUCTIONAL
GOAL:
To understand the nature of AIDS and the actions necessary to prevent,
limit, and control its development.
Sub-goal 1. To understand what AIDS is and what causes it.
EXPECTED
OUTCOMES
The Student:
- defines the term AIDS and describes how the disease is characterized;
- describes the origin of the AIDS disease;
- identifies the basic causes of AIDS;
- explains how the AIDS virus affects the immune system.
Sub-goal 2. To understand how the AIDS virus is transmitted and the
basic symptoms of the disease.

explains how the AIDS virus is transmitted;
suggests several ways that AIDS is not transmitted;
describes who can contract AIDS;
describes the symptoms of ARC;
describes the symptoms of AIDS;
explains the medical treatments for AIDS;
Student will have the latest information about an ever changing disease.
Sub-goal 3. To understand how AIDS can be prevented and the'measures
necessary to limit its spread.
EXPECTED
OUTCOMES
The Student:
- cites reasons why it is important to know about AIDS;
- discusses ways to prevent the spread of AIDS including abstinence from
sex and drugs, and the limitations of.the use of condoms in the
prevention of AIDS.
- identifies accurate sources of information regarding AIDS;
