Daytop's Promethean Institute, a solar complex located in the Pocono
Mountains, is offering a unique informational and experiential training
workshop for professionals concerned with AIDS and substance abuse rehabilitation.
A full schedule of sessions and workshops will provide
practical help and emotional support for dealing with the realitie~ of AIDS
and substance abuse.
This retreat, scheduled for 5 full days, December 13-18, 1987 is focused on
the concerns of AIDS within the Therapeutic Community. Participants will
benefit from the most current information about AIDS and the treatment of
substance abuse. They will have the opportunity to share their experiences
with fellow professionals, while learning with a faculty drawn from the
fields of medicine, nursing, drug abuse treatment, policy "planning,
research, psychodrama and administration.

AIDS GUIDE
The U.S. Department of Education" is distributing a handbook that constitutes
the Department's first set of recommendations on how young people should be
educated about the dangers of AIDS. The 28-page handbook, "AIDS and the
Education of our Children: A Guide for Parents and Teachers," emphasizes
sexual abstinence and monogamy, with only secondary attention given to
available means of reducing the risk of spreading the disease throug~ drug
use or sexual intercourse. Addressed to parents and teachers, the handbook
includes a section designed to assist educators in developing AIDS education
programs.
Copies of the handbook are being distributed to school böards and
