The development and operati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Teghut copper-molybdenum mining<br />
project would allegedly have serious envir<strong>on</strong>mental, health, social and o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r<br />
human rights impacts. According to informati<strong>on</strong> received, some 82.6% <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> territory c<strong>on</strong>ceded to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> company is forest, 357 hectares <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> which will<br />
be cleared. Mine exploitati<strong>on</strong> would allegedly result in 500 milli<strong>on</strong> t<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
tailings (hazardous waste) and 600 milli<strong>on</strong> t<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r kinds <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> waste, to<br />
be disposed <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> gorge <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Duganadzor river. C<strong>on</strong>cerns are raised that<br />
this situati<strong>on</strong> not <strong>on</strong>ly poses a risk to those living around <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> project, but<br />
also to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> entire country and neighbouring countries.<br />
Alleged death in custody following torture. According to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong><br />

arrested by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> police in Mayang<strong>on</strong>e Township, Yang<strong>on</strong>, and accused <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
being involved in a murder committed a week earlier. On 6 July 2012, his<br />
mo<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, Ms. Daw Sein Sein, and his cousin, Mr. Ko Soe Lin, were allegedly<br />
taken to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same police stati<strong>on</strong> without a court order. Both <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m were set<br />
free <strong>on</strong> 8 July 2012. On <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same day, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> district police commander<br />
informed Ms. Daw Sein Sein that in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meantime her s<strong>on</strong> had died from<br />
