cardinal acts related to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> justice system and its functi<strong>on</strong>ing. Several provisi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> new legal framework may affect <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> independent functi<strong>on</strong>ing <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> judiciary.<br />

They particularly c<strong>on</strong>cern <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> electi<strong>on</strong> procedure regarding <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Curia and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Judicial <str<strong>on</strong>g>Office</str<strong>on</strong>g>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> duties <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> President<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Judicial <str<strong>on</strong>g>Office</str<strong>on</strong>g>, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> new provisi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> retirement age <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

judges. In additi<strong>on</strong>, informati<strong>on</strong> was received regarding <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> powers <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Prosecuti<strong>on</strong> service and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir insufficient separati<strong>on</strong> from judicial functi<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

Allegati<strong>on</strong> that new media laws still limit <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rights to freedom <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> opini<strong>on</strong> and<br />

expressi<strong>on</strong>. According to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong> received, despite some <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> positive<br />

changes, such as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rulings <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> C<strong>on</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong>al Court <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Republic Hungary<br />

<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> media legislati<strong>on</strong>, adopted <strong>on</strong> 19 December 2011, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> amendments,<br />

made by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Parliament <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Republic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hungary <strong>on</strong> 7 March 2011, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Law <strong>on</strong><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Freedom <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Press and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Fundamental Rules <strong>on</strong> Media C<strong>on</strong>tent (Act CIV<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2010) and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Media Services and Mass Media Act (Act CLXXXV <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2010)<br />

(<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ―Media Law‖) reportedly remain problematic with regard to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> press freedom<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> right to freedom <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> expressi<strong>on</strong> and opini<strong>on</strong> in Hungary due to certain<br />

issues, such as inadequate safeguards for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> independence and impartiality <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

regulatory authority, legal uncertainty, as well as disproporti<strong>on</strong>ate and unnecessary<br />

regulatory interventi<strong>on</strong>s and sancti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

Alleged widespread violence in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> country. According to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong><br />

received, 2012 has begun with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> deadliest incidents since <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> start <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> uprising<br />

in Syria mid-March 2011. Despite repeated calls to put an immediate end to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

violence, casualties have dramatically increased over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last few weeks.<br />

humanos. Según la información recibida, el 2 de febrero de 2012, la sede de<br />

Mulabi - Espacio Latinoamericano de Sexualidades y Derechos - que trabaja en<br />

temas relaci<strong>on</strong>ados a los derechos sexuales y reproductivos de lesbianas,<br />

bisexuales, pers<strong>on</strong>as trans e intersex (LBTI), y que además es la vivienda de la Sra.<br />

Natasha Jiménez, la coordinadora general de la organización, habría sido allanada<br />

y varios objetos de valor habrían sido robados.<br />
