Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani nati<strong>on</strong>al aged 25, was executed in India <strong>on</strong> 21<br />
November 2012. He was sentenced to death by a special court in 2010, for<br />
his alleged involvement in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mumbai attacks that took place <strong>on</strong> 26<br />
November 2008, and reportedly resulted in 150 pers<strong>on</strong>s killed and<br />
approximately 250 individuals injured. It was reported that Mr. Kasab was<br />
found guilty <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> more than 80 charges, including murder, committing acts <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
terrorism and criminal c<strong>on</strong>spiracy to commit murder. The legal proceedings<br />
against him allegedly did not comply with internati<strong>on</strong>al human rights law<br />
regarding fair trial and due process guarantees.<br />

informati<strong>on</strong> received, approximately 500 to 600 Basarwa and Bakgalagadi<br />
indigenous residents live in five communities within <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Central Kalahari<br />
Game Reserve. Approximately 2,200 to 2,400 Basarwa and Bankgaladi<br />
people who were former residents <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Reserve, but have been evicted<br />
from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir traditi<strong>on</strong>al lands, now live in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> resettlement sites <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Xere, New<br />
Xade and Kaudwane. In <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Roy Sesana and O<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs v. The Attorney<br />

However, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Government has allegedly maintained <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> positi<strong>on</strong> that <strong>on</strong>ly<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 243 applicants who were named in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Sesana case can return to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
Reserve without obtaining a temporary entry permit. Fur<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, indigenous<br />
residents in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Reserve have allegedly been criminally prosecuted, arrested,<br />
harassed, beaten and intimidated by police and park <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ficials for engaging in<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir traditi<strong>on</strong>al subsistence hunting and ga<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ring activities.<br />
