2006, Mr. Anas Hamad Al Kharboush was arrested, and has been detained<br />

since without charge or trial. On 24 September 2012, his wife Ms. Al<br />

Kharboush and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir three children were allegedly arrested in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>text <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

a peaceful dem<strong>on</strong>strati<strong>on</strong> that ga<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>red more than 100 pers<strong>on</strong>s, who<br />

protested against allegedly arbitrary detenti<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir family members and<br />

c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s in detenti<strong>on</strong>. While two children <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ms. Al Kharboush were<br />

released shortly after, <strong>on</strong>e was allegedly kept in detenti<strong>on</strong> for four days. On<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> occasi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this protest, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> police reportedly also arrested about 60 male<br />

protesters. The o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r protesters were reportedly c<strong>on</strong>fined to a desert area,<br />

where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were kept without food or water for close to a day. At <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> time<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> communicati<strong>on</strong> was sent, three pers<strong>on</strong>s arrested during this<br />

dem<strong>on</strong>strati<strong>on</strong> were still in detenti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

deport human rights defender and critical blogger Mr. Abdullah Barahouei<br />

to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Islamic Republic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Iran. Mr. Barahouei is <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Balochi origin and was<br />

reportedly a regular c<strong>on</strong>tributor to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> critical blog 'Balochistan Sarafraz',<br />

which regularly denounced alleged human rights violati<strong>on</strong>s and instances <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

discriminati<strong>on</strong> against <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Balochi minority. The blog published such posts<br />

with particular intensity during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2009 presidential electi<strong>on</strong>s. In <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> wake<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this period, it is reported that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> blog's editor, Mr. Sakhi Regi, and<br />

several o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r c<strong>on</strong>tributors were arrested, with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> editor being sentenced to<br />

20 years impris<strong>on</strong>ment. Mr. Barahouei c<strong>on</strong>sequently fled <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> country in fear<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> his safety.<br />
