employer‘s house and seeking assistance at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ethiopian C<strong>on</strong>sulate in Leban<strong>on</strong>,<br />

Alem Dechasa was physically beaten and forcibly dragged into a car by two men.<br />

It is alleged that Alem Dechasa was later taken to a mental instituti<strong>on</strong> where she<br />

Alleged deportati<strong>on</strong> and secret detenti<strong>on</strong> in Uzbekistan. According to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

informati<strong>on</strong> received, Mr. X fled to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Republic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Korea in 2008 to escape<br />

religious persecuti<strong>on</strong> in Uzbekistan. Reportedly, <strong>on</strong> 7 February 2012, he was<br />

arrested <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> basis <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> alleged illegal entry and stay in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> country and was taken<br />

to Seoul Immigrati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Office</str<strong>on</strong>g> where he remained detained for four days before he<br />

was transferred to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hwasung Foreigner Detenti<strong>on</strong> Center. Allegedly, Mr. X was<br />

not allowed to file an asylum seeker applicati<strong>on</strong> until after UNHCR intervened. On<br />

21 March 2012, Mr. X was notified <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rejecti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> his applicati<strong>on</strong> for refugee<br />

status and was deported to Uzbekistan. Mr. X was reportedly not given a chance to<br />

appeal to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Minister <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Justice which he was entitled to within 14 days. His<br />

mo<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r later learned from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> local police that her s<strong>on</strong> had been taken to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Nati<strong>on</strong>al Security Service by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> so-called secret police. His fate and whereabouts<br />

remained unknown.<br />

Alleged imminent executi<strong>on</strong> for not most serious crime and following a trial in<br />

violati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> procedural safeguards. According to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong> received, in<br />

November 2011, Mr. Aref Hamidian was sentenced to death <strong>on</strong> drug related<br />

charges, following a trial in which he did not have access to a defense lawyer and<br />

interpreters. The sentence was subsequently upheld by both <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Supreme Court<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Appeal Court. The sentence was sent for implementati<strong>on</strong> and at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> time <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> transmittal <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this communicati<strong>on</strong>, Mr. Aref was at imminent risk <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> executi<strong>on</strong>.<br />
