F. Adult Care Facilities:<br />

Interpandemic and <strong>Pandemic</strong> Alert Periods<br />

Adult Home Providers:<br />

• Physicians will report any influenza diagnoses to the ACF administrator.<br />

• Administrator will notify NYSDOH Regional Office and LHD of<br />

influenza diagnoses on a regular basis.<br />

• Review emergency plans including surge plans and call-down lists and<br />

revise as needed. Staff to be educated on any changes.<br />

• HPN Coordinator(s) to review and revise the Communications<br />

Directory, including Emergency Office 24/7 Contacts and Contact<br />

Persons.<br />

• HPN Coordinator(s) to obtain HPN accounts for all Contact Persons<br />

listed in the Communications Directory.<br />

• Reinforce infection control education of personnel and residents,<br />

including strict adherence to hand hygiene and standard respiratory<br />

precautions.<br />

• Educate personnel and residents on proper use of Personal Protective<br />

Equipment (PPE), including paper ‘surgical masks’, gowns and gloves.<br />

• Educate personnel and residents on avoidance of hand to mucous<br />

membrane contact, and need for thorough hand washing if such contact<br />

is made.<br />

• Establish procedures to assure precautionary measures for cognitively<br />

impaired residents.<br />

• Determine how the facility will communicate with resident<br />

representatives and advocates and help educate them regarding<br />

prevention and control measures.<br />

• Develop a plan for procuring the supplies (e.g., PPE) needed to manage<br />

residents with influenza.<br />

• Instruct all personnel to report influenza-like symptoms/illness to<br />

designated staff immediately.<br />

• Educate personnel on influenza, including signs and symptoms, and<br />

transmission.<br />

• Encourage personnel to obtain appropriate influenza vaccines.<br />

• Investigate any clusters of influenza-like illness and report to LHD and<br />

NYSDOH Regional Office.<br />

• Review contact numbers for NYSDOH Regional Office and<br />

Duty Officer, LHD, local OEM, community partners with<br />

appropriate staff and maintain in a location readily accessible by<br />

staff. Include both a primary and secondary method of<br />

communication where possible (e.g., phone, fax, e-mail).<br />

• Educate appropriate staff on the location and purpose of this<br />

information.<br />
