Section 6: Vaccine Procurement, Distribution, and Use<br />

• Continue to plan for the use and training of non-licensed persons to<br />

administer vaccine.<br />

• Continue public health preparedness activities especially in regard to mass<br />

distribution of vaccines.<br />

Local Health Departments:<br />

• Continue to enhance the use of annual influenza vaccine.<br />

• Continue to promote the use of pneumococcal vaccine.<br />

• Continue to identify priority groups within the county.<br />

• Identify hard to reach groups within the county that would require<br />

immunization.<br />

• Develop a plan on how individuals in priority groups would be reached<br />

and vaccinated.<br />

• Develop a plan on how to identify priority groups at vaccination clinics.<br />

• Educate providers and other stakeholders about local health department<br />

plans for vaccination.<br />

• Continue public health preparedness activities especially in regard to mass<br />

distribution of vaccines.<br />

• Continue to plan for the use and training of non-licensed persons to<br />

administer vaccine.<br />

Healthcare Partners:<br />

• Enhance use of annual influenza vaccine.<br />

• Enhance the use of pneumococcal vaccine.<br />

• Identify those in priority groups within a practice or facility.<br />

• Work with local health department staff in mass distribution planning.<br />

• Continue public health preparedness activities especially in regard to mass<br />

distribution of vaccines.<br />

<strong>Pandemic</strong> Period- After the first reports of pandemic influenza are confirmed<br />

and before a pandemic vaccine becomes available<br />

State Health Department:<br />

• Work with local health departments and health care partners to distribute,<br />

deliver, administer, and track pre-pandemic or stockpiled vaccines to<br />

designated priority groups, if available.<br />

• Keep the healthcare and public health workforce up-to-date on projected<br />

timelines for availability of vaccines.<br />

• Review and update modifications if any to recommendations on<br />

vaccinating priority groups.<br />

• Make any revisions of priority groups needed and communicate the<br />

changes and their rationale to LHDs and health care partners.<br />
