KENNEBEC.<br />

A Township in the Midland District : is bounded on the east by the township<br />

of Olden ; on the north by Barrie ; on the west by Kaladar; and on the south<br />

by Sheffield and Hinchinbrooke. Two long lakes, one of which is called " Long<br />

Lake," stretch across the centre of the township ; these are the principal sources<br />

of Salmon River. This township has only lately been opened for sale, and no<br />

return has yet been made from it. Sixty-five thousand acres of Crown lands are<br />

open for sale in Kennebec, at eight shillings currency per acre.<br />

KENT.<br />

A County in the Western District. It <strong>com</strong>prises the townships of Bosanquet,<br />

Brooke. Camden, Chatham, Dawn, East Dover, West Dover. Enniskillen, Harwich,<br />

Howard, Moore, Orford, Plympton, Raleigh, Romney, Sarnia, Sombra,<br />

East Tilbury, Warwick and Zone. It returns a member to the House of<br />

Assembly.<br />

KENYON.<br />

A Township in the Eastern District ; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />

township of Lochiel; on the north-west by Caledonia; on the south-west by the<br />

reserve of the St. Regis Indians; and on the south-east by Charlottenburgh. In<br />

Kenyon, 43,166 acres are taken up, 3,837 of which are under cultivation. The<br />

land in Kenyon varies in quality. Timber, pine, intermixed with hardwood.<br />

There are two rist mills in the township.<br />

Population in 1842, 2,536, who are principally Irish Catholics and- Scotch.<br />

The latter have a Presbyterian Church in the township.<br />

Ratable property in the township, £20,812.<br />

KILWORTH.<br />

A Village in the township of Delaware, situated on the River Thames, about<br />

five miles from Delaware. It contains about loO inhabitants. There is a stone<br />

school-house in the village, which is us(.d for religious services. About one<br />

mile from the village, in the township of Lobo, Lord .Mountcashel has a house,<br />

finely situated, being erected on an eminence <strong>com</strong>manding a fine view of the<br />

Thames.<br />

Professions and Trades.— Two grist mills, one saw ditto, carding machine<br />

and fulling mill, one distillery, two tanneries, four stores, two taverns, one<br />

saddler, two tailors, two shoemakers, one waggon-maker, and one blacksmith.<br />

KING.<br />

\ Township in the Home District; is bounded on the north by the townships<br />

of Gwillimbury West and Tecumsoth; on the west by .Vlbion ; on the south by<br />

Vaughan; and on the east by NVhitchurch. In King, 53,240 acres are taken<br />

up, 13,818 of which are under cultivation. This is an old settled township, and<br />

pcjssesses son'ie fine farms; but a portion of the township is hilly and broken,<br />

the timber being hemlock intermingled with hardwood. The west branch of<br />

the Holland River runs through tlie centre of the north of the township, and is<br />

bordered by a cousiilerable extent of swauxp. The village of Lloydtown is<br />

Situated in the north-west corner of the township, and one mile and a half to<br />

the north-east is the village of Brownsville. There are also in King, Bogarttown<br />

in the north-east of the township about two miles from Yonge Street,<br />

containing about ten dwellings, grist and saw mill, Maggon maker and blacksmith;<br />

and Tyrwhit's Mills, eight miles east from Lloydtown, between that<br />

village and Yonge Street, containing grist and saw mill, tavern, .store, cooper,<br />

and blacksmith. King is settled by a mixed population, consisting principally<br />

of Irish, with a few English, Scotch, <strong>Canadian</strong>s, and Americans. One hundred
