After leading Kettle Point, the timber is principally pine. A saw mill wa*<br />
established at the north bi nd ol' the river, soon after the first settlement of the<br />
district. There is an Indian reserve near Kettle Point, and another about three<br />
miles above.<br />
No separate census has yet been taken of this township.<br />

BOUCHER'S MILLS, Or SUTTON MILLS.<br />
A small Village in the township of Georgina, about two miles from Lake<br />
Simcoe, and twenty-three miles from Holland Landing ; contains about one<br />
hundred inhabitants. There are in the settlement, a grist and saw mill, tannery,<br />
store, tavern, one blacksmith, and two shoemakers.<br />
BOWMANVILLE.<br />
A Village in the township of Darlington, situated on the eastern road, nine<br />
miles east from Oshawa. The village is prettily situated, being built on the<br />
sides of two hills, with a mill stream running through the hollow which divides<br />
the village. It contains about 500 inhabitants ; churches and chapels, five, viz..<br />
Episcopal, Free Church, Congregational, <strong>Canadian</strong> Wesleyan, and Chi'istian.<br />
Post Office, post every day.<br />
Professions and Trades.—One physician and surgeon, one grist mill, one<br />
oatmeal do., oue tannerj-, one distillery, one carding machine and cloth factory,<br />
one axe factory, one ashery, seven stores, four taverns, one brewery, one druggist,<br />
one pottery, two waggon makers, three blacksmiths, one chair factory, two<br />
bakers, two watchmakers, six shoemakers, six tailors.<br />
BRADFORD.<br />
A Village in the township of West Gwillimbury, 4 miles from Holland Landing,<br />
and twenty-two from Barrie. The road Irom the Landing to Bradford<br />
passes over the Holland river, and a large swamp bordering it, where a causeway<br />
has been constructed nearly a mile in length, with a floating bridge in its<br />
centre. The road between the two places has been macadamised, and a toll-gate<br />
placed on it. Bradford was laid out in the year 1S30, and it now contains<br />
250 inhabitants. Churches and chapels, two ; Presbyterian and Methodist.<br />
Post Office, post three times a-week.<br />
Projcssions and Trades.—One steam saw mill, one tannery, one distillery,<br />
three stores, three taverns, two blacksmiths, tAvo cabinet makers, two tailors, two<br />
waggon makers, one gunsmith, one saddler, one pump maker, two shoemakers.<br />
BRAMPTON.<br />
A Village in the township of Chiuguaoousy, situated on the Centre road, in<br />
the south of the township ; contains about 150 inhabitants.<br />
Post Office, post twice a-week.<br />
Professions and Trades.—Two store' , one tavern, one tannery, one cabinet<br />
maker, two blacksmiths, two tailors.<br />
BR A NT FORD.<br />
A Town in the township of Brantford, situated on the Grand River, 23^ miles<br />
from Hamilton. It was laid out by the crown in 1830, and is a place of considerable<br />
business. A canal, two miles and a-iialf in length, has been constructed<br />
from Brantford to below the falls of the Grand River, which will be capable of<br />
admitting and allowing vessels drawing three feet and a-half water to reach the<br />
town. The fall in the river between the town and the termination of the canal,<br />
is about twenty-three feet, which has been over<strong>com</strong>e by means of three locks.<br />
During the last two seasons, a steamer ran regularly three times a-week from<br />
the entrance of the canal to Dunnvillc (fare .f 1^). The Western road runs<br />
through the town. Brantford contains eight churches and chapels, viz., Episcopal,
