Eldon: and on the south by Fenelon. In Fenelon and Bexley 7279 acres are<br />
taken up, 862 of which are under cultivation A large lake, called " Balsam<br />
Lake," fills up a considerable portion of the south and east of Bexley, and of<br />
the north of Fenelon ; and a portion of Sturgeon Lake stretches along the coast<br />
of Fenelon. The land bordering tlies-e lakes is mostly pine. A small settlement,<br />
called " Fenelon Fulls," is situated in the north-east of the township.<br />
The settlers ai'e principally English. There are one grist and two saw mills in<br />
these townships. In Bexley 11,59:2, and in Fenelon 9065 acres of Crown lands<br />
are open for sale, at 8.*. currency, per acre.<br />

FERGUS.<br />
A Village in the township of Nicliol, situated on the Grand River, thirteen<br />
miles from Guelph, was laid out in 1833. by the Hon. A. Fergusson and Mr.<br />
Webster, on the road to the government settlement at Owen Sound. The situation<br />
is hilly and cold, and the soil in the neighbourhood of the village is poor<br />
and stoney. Population, 184, who are principally Scotch. Fergus contains a<br />
Presbyterian church.<br />
Post Office, post three times a-week.<br />
Projesxiunx and Trades.—One physician and surgeon, one grist and saw mill,<br />
one distillery, one tannery, three stores, one baker, one watchmaker, three<br />
shoemakers, one brewery, two blacksmiths, two carpenters, one cabinet maker<br />
and turner, one tailor.<br />
FIGHTING ISLAND.<br />
An Island in the Detroit River, three miles below Sandwich, contains about<br />
1800 acres, of which 300 are fit fnr cultivation; the remainder being marsh,<br />
which is used for grazing cattle. It possesses a good fishery.<br />
FINCH.<br />
.\ Township in the Eastern District; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />
township of Rox borough; on the north-M-est by Cambridge and Russell; on the<br />
south-west by ^^'inciu-ster; and on the south-east by Osnabruck. In Finch<br />
15,410 acres are taken up, 2305 of which are under cultivation. The Petit<br />
Nation River runs through the north of tiie townsliip, from south to north.<br />
There is considerable pine on its banks, much of which is floated down the<br />
Ottawa. There are one grist and three saw-mills in the townsliip. One hundred<br />
and fifty acres of crown lands are open for sale in Finch, at 8a'. c"y per acre.<br />
Population, 756; who are principally Scotch, and have a Presbyterian church.<br />

A Village in the township of Soutliwold; six miles from Port Stanley. It<br />
contains about 150 inhabitants, who have a church, free to all denominations.<br />
