parallel with the hay, just within tiie township of Flos. Much of the land in<br />

the township is hilly and broken. Eighteen thousand four hundred acres of<br />

Crown lands are open for sale in Sunnidale, at 8.v. currency per acre. There is<br />

OJie saw mill in the township.<br />

Sunnidale is as yet but little settled, and in 1842, it only contained 174 inhabitants.<br />

SUTHHRLAND'S.<br />

A Village in the township of .Moore, pleasantly .situated on the River St.<br />

Clair, opposite the American town " St. Clair," or " Palmer." It was laid out<br />

in 18.'i3, by Mr. Sutherland, a gentleman from Edinburgh, who has done a great<br />

deal to improve the neighbourhood—having cleared a large quantity of land<br />

built a hand.sonie Episcopal church, iS:c. Here are several wharves for supplying<br />

steamboats with wood. Sutherlands is ten miles from Port Sarnia, and contains<br />

a <strong>com</strong>fortable tavern.<br />

Post Office, post three times a-week.<br />

Population, about 100.<br />

Pro/cssums and Trades.—One physician and surgeon, tliree stores, one tavern,<br />

two blacksmiths, one tailor, one shoemaker, one school.<br />

SYDEA'IIAM.<br />

A Village in the township of Toronto, 14:1 miles from Toronto, situated on<br />

Dundas Street. It contains about 140 inhabitants. There is a stone chapel, a<br />

short distance from the A'illage, free for all denominations.<br />

Prcfessiun.s and Trades.—Steam grist mill and distillery, brewery, one store,<br />

one tavern, one tannery, two blacksmiths, two waggon makers, one carpenter,<br />

one butcher, one shoemaker.<br />

SYDENHAM.<br />

A Township in the Wellington District; is bounded on the north by O^wen<br />

Sound; on the west by the township of Derby; on the south by Holland; and<br />

ou the east by St. Vincent. This township has only latel}" been opened for sale,<br />

and no return has yet been made from it The land is of good quality. A<br />

village, called " Sydenham," is <strong>com</strong>menced on an excellent mill stream, about a<br />

mile back from the lake. At present it contains a grist and saw mill, store, and<br />

about 1.50 inhabitants. In Sydenham 81,180 acres of Crown lands are open<br />

for sale, at 8s. currency per acre.<br />

TALBOT DISTRICT.<br />

Consists of the county of Norfolk, which <strong>com</strong>pi-ises the townships of Charlotteville.<br />

Houghton, Middleton, Townsend, Woodhouse, Windham, and<br />

Walsingham, and for all purposes, except that of representation in the Legislative<br />

Assembly, and that of registration of titles, the townships of Rainham and<br />

Walpole. The Talbot District is bounded on the north-east by the Niagara<br />

District and the Gore district ; on the north by the Brock District; on the west<br />

by the London District ; and on the south by Lake Erie. The district is<br />

watered by Big Creek, and a small portion of Otter Creek, besides numerous<br />

smaller streams, many of which are excellent mill-streams. The land varies in<br />

quality ; that in the townships of Walsingham. Houghton and Middleton is<br />

principally timbered with pine, that in the other townships is hardwood and pine<br />

jntermixed. Long Point, which is now an island, is included in the district.<br />

Much of the laud in the district is rolling, and Simcoe, the district town, i«<br />

very handsomely situated.<br />

The Talbot District is settled principally by <strong>Canadian</strong>s, with a few Scotch,
