ELORA.<br />
• A Village in the township of Nichol, beautifully and romantically situated on<br />
the Grand River, about thirteen miles from Guelph, was first settled in 1832 by<br />
Mr. W. Gilkison. The "Falls" of Elora are very beautiful, and are much<br />
visited; the river having worn a channel thirty-five or forty feet deep through<br />
the solid hme stone rock. A large rock stands in the centre of the stream,<br />
just above the Falls, bearing trees; the base of which is nearly worn away by<br />
the constant friction of the water. Just below the village, the river is joined<br />
by a branch called the Irvine. The situation of Elora is hiUy. The village<br />
contains about 100 inhabitants, and has an Episcopal chmxh, and a Methodist<br />
chapel.<br />

Professiojis and Trcnfes.—One physician and surgeon, one grist and oatmeal<br />
mill, one saw mill, carding machine and cloth factoiy, one store, one tavern,<br />
one chemist and druggist, two blacksmiths, three shoemakers, two waggon<br />

ELZEVIR.<br />
A Township in the Victoria District, is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Kaladar; on the north by Grimsthorpe; on the west by Madoc; and on the<br />
south by Hungerford. This township has only lately been opened for sale, and<br />
no return has yet been made from it. Thirty-eight thousand four hundred and<br />
seventy -five acres of Crown lands are open for sale in Elzevir, at 8s. c'y. per<br />
acre.<br />
EMBRO.<br />
A Village in the west of the township of Zorra, situated on the road leading<br />
from Governor's road to Stratford. There is a Presbyterian church m the<br />
village.<br />
Population about 150, who are principally Highland Scotch.<br />
Professions and Trades.—One grist and saw-mill, carding machine and cloth<br />
factory, one distillery, one tannery, three stores, two taverns, one waggon maker,<br />
two blacksmiths, three shoemakers, one tailor.<br />

EMILY.<br />
A Township in the Colbome District; is bounded on the east by the townships<br />
of Ennismore and Smith; on the north by Verulam; on the west by Ops;<br />
and on the south by Cavan. In Emily, 35,3.57 acres are taken up, 5399 of which<br />
are under cultivation. This is a good township, and is well settled bj' a mixed<br />
population, principally Irish Protestants. It has a good mill stream running<br />
through it; and a small settlement, called Metcalfe, is situated in its south-west<br />
corner. There are two grist and two saw-mills, and one distillery in the township.<br />
Four thousand one hundred acres of Crown lands are open for sale in<br />
Emily, at 8.v. c'y per acre.<br />

ENNISMOIIE.<br />
A Townsliip in the Colborne Di.-trict; is boundv.d on the north-east and south<br />
by part of the great chain of lakes situated in the district, and on the west by<br />
the township of Emily. This is a snuill township, of nearly a triangular shape.<br />
In Ennismore 8321 acres are taken up, 93 '> of which are under cultivation.<br />
Inhabitants principally Irish Catholics. One thusand four hundred acres of<br />
Crown lands are open for sale in tlie township, at 8s. c'y per acre.<br />
