PITTSBURGH.<br />
.\. Township in the Midland District; is bounded on the east by the township'<br />
of Leeds: on the north by Bedford and South Crosby; on tiie west by Loughborough<br />
and Kiufistou; and on the south by Lake Ontario. In Pittsburgh<br />
37.43.'5 acres are taken up, (J,231 of which are under cultivation The Rideau<br />
Canal runs across the township, from north-east to south-west; a navigable<br />
cliannel having been nrade through the Catara(jui River and a chain of lakes<br />
in the north of the township. Most of the land thi-ough which the canal passes<br />
is unfit for cultivation, the high ground being <strong>com</strong>posed principally of granite<br />
rocks, and the low ground being generally flooded. There are three saw mills<br />
in the township. Two thousand four hundred acres of Crown lauds are open<br />
for sale in Pittsburgh, at 8»-. currency per acre.<br />

PLANTAGENET,<br />
A Township in the Ottawa District; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Alfred; on the north by the Ottawa River; on the west by Clarence and<br />
Ca. abridge; and on the south and south-east by Roxborough and Caledonia.<br />
In Piantagenet 18,075 acres are taken up, 2,356 of which an- under cultivation.<br />
Tiiis is a large township, extending back the whole depth of the Ottawa District:<br />
it i-5 divided into Piantagenet in front, and Piantagenet in rear. The Petite<br />
Nation River enters the township near ijs north-west corner, runs across the<br />
township, in a south-easterly direction, till it roaches the eastern border, where<br />
it makfS a bend, and flows west, aiul a little south, to the norrli-east corner of<br />
Ca'nhridge, which township it enters. Piantagenet is as yet but little settled<br />
24.616 aere-s of ("rown lands are open for saie in it, at ^a-. currency per acre.<br />
Taere is one grist mill and oue saw mill in the township.<br />
