OXFORD EAST.<br />
A Township in the Brock District; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Burlbrd; on the north by Hlandford; on the west by West Oxford; and on<br />
the south by Norwich. In East Oxford, 21,936 acres are taken up, 5836 of<br />
which are under cultivation. This is a .small township, but it is pretty M'ell<br />
settled. The soil of the north and west of the townsliip is mostly liglit, and the<br />
land is timbered with pine; in the south-east, the timber consists of pine, intermixed<br />
with hardwood. There are one grist and three saw mills in the township.<br />
Popidation in 1842, 1280; who are principally <strong>Canadian</strong>s, with a few English,<br />
Iri.sh and Scotch.<br />

OXFORD, NORTH.<br />
A Township in the Brock District ; is bounded on the south-east by the<br />
townshij) of West Oxford; on the north by Zorra and Nissouri; and on the<br />
west by North Dorchester. In North Oxford 9,207 acres are taken up, 1,950<br />
of which are under cultivation. This is a small township, containing excellent<br />
land, Avhieh is timbered generally with hardwood. There is a large lime -stone<br />
quarry in the east corner of the township, which extends into the townsliip of<br />
VVest Oxford. There is one saw mill in the township.<br />
Population in 1842, 444; who are principally European emigrants.<br />

PAISLEY BLOCK.<br />
A Scotch Settlement in the township of Guelph. It <strong>com</strong>mences about six miles<br />
north-east from the town of Guelph, and extends about four miles in length-<br />
The settlement was <strong>com</strong>menced about seventeen years ago, and it now contains<br />
good farms, which are generally well cultivated.<br />
PAKENHAM.<br />
A Township in the Bathm-st District; is bounded on the north-east by the township<br />
of Fitzroy; on the north-west by Macnab; on the south-west by Darling;<br />
and on the south-east by Ramsay. In Pakeuham 14,014 acres are taken up,<br />
406tJ of which are under cultivation. The INlississippi River runs through<br />
the east of the township from south to north. The village of Pakenliam is<br />
situated in the township. Pakenham is well settled, principally by emigrants<br />
from Scotland, and contains some good farms. Twenty-four thousand four<br />
li\indred acres of Crown lands are open for sale in the township, at S*. currency<br />
pr acre.<br />

PAKENHAM.<br />
A Village in the township of Pakenham, about forty miles from Byte wn,<br />
forty from Perth, and ten from Fitzroy Harbour. It contains about u50 inliabitiints.<br />
Churches and chapels, three; viz., Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Methodist.<br />
Post Office, post six times a-week.<br />
