RICEVILLE.<br />
A small Village in the to-miship of Pelhaui, four miles west from Port Ro-<br />
"binson. It contains about 50 inhabitants, t^vo stores, and two taverns.<br />
RICHMOND.<br />
A Village in the south-east corner of the township of Goulbourn, twenty<br />
miles from Bytown, situated on the Goodwood River, which tlows through the<br />
village. The houses are much scattered—the village extending over 2( lO acres<br />
of land, each lot containg one acre. The place M-as laid out, in IS 18, by the<br />
Duke of Richmond, (who died shortly afterwards in the neighbourhood, of hydrophobia),<br />
and was origmally settled by Highland Scotch. It contains about<br />
12U0 inhabitants. There are three churches in the village, viz., Episcopal,<br />
Presbyterian, and Catholic.<br />
Post Office, post three times a-week.<br />
Professions and Trades.—Ten stores, four taverns, two waggon makers, oi>e<br />
cabinet maker, two blacksmiths, three tailors, four shoemakers.<br />
RICHMOND.<br />
A small Village in the township of Bayham, situated on Talbot Street, twenty<br />
miles east from St. Thomas. It contains about SO inhabitants.<br />
Post Office, post three times a week.<br />
ProfessioTt.s and Trades.—One store, one tannery, one tavern, one waggon<br />
maker, one tailor, two blacksmiths, two shoemakers, one cabinet maker.<br />
RICHMOND.<br />
A Township in the Midland District ; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Camden ; on the north by Hungerford ; on the w^-st by Tyendenaga ; and<br />
on the south by Fredericksburgh, and the Bay of Quiute. In Richmond<br />
40.434 acres are taken up. 10-;3(»1 of which are imder cultivation. Two small<br />
lakes are situated in the north-west corner of the township ; and the village of<br />
Napanee is in its south-east corner, on the Napanee River. Richmond is well<br />
settled, and contains some good farms. There is a considerable quantity of<br />
limestone in the township. Timber principally hardwood, with some pine.<br />
There are three grist and seven saw-mills in the township.<br />
Population 2,630.<br />

RICHMOND HTLI.<br />
A small Village situated on Yonge Street, sixteen miles north from Toronto.<br />
It contains about 140 inhabitants. Churches two, Episcopal and Methodist. A<br />
stage runs daily from Richmond Hill to Toronto, and back again.<br />
Post office, post every day.<br />
Professions and Trades.—Four stores, four taverns, one watchmaker, one<br />
baker, two tinsmiths, two tailors, three shoemakers, one blacksmith.<br />
Principal Tavern.^.— " Dalby's " (the stage house), and " Bingham's."<br />
RIDEAU CANAL.<br />
The line of water <strong>com</strong>munication between the Ottawa River and Lake Ontario.<br />
It was constructed by the Government as a great military v
