LLOYDTOWN.<br />
A Village in the nonh-east of the township of King; prettily situated in rather<br />
a hilly country; it was settled about sixteen years since by Mr. Jesse Lloyd;<br />
and is chiefly noted as being the place from whence the first party of rebels<br />
started at the <strong>com</strong>mencement of the rebellion. It is fourteen miles from >'ewmarket,<br />
nearly due west. It contains 160 inhabitants. There are two churches<br />
and chapels, viz., Episcopal and <strong>Canadian</strong> Wesleyan.<br />
Post Office, post twice a-week.<br />
Professions and Trades.—One physician and surgeon, one surveyor, one grist<br />
and saw mill, carding machine, ashery, distillery, two tanneries, three stores,<br />
two taverns, two saddlers, two blacksmiths, two chainnakers, one cabinet maker,<br />
tlu-ee wheelwrights, two carpenters, two tailors, four shoemakers, one cooper.<br />
LOBO.<br />
A Township in the London District; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of London; on the north-west by Williams; on the south-west by Adelaide and<br />
Can-adoc; and on the south by the River Thames. In Lobo, .33,293 ac es are<br />
taken up, 4671 of which are under cultivation. The east branch of Bear Creek<br />
runs across the north of the township, and a branch of the Thames through the<br />
south-east. There is a considerable quantity of good land in the township.<br />
Timber—hardwood, intermixed with pine. There are three grist and six saw<br />
mills in the township.<br />
Population in 1842, 1299.<br />

LOCHIEL.<br />
A Township in the Eastern District; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />
township of Hawkcsbuiy East; on the north-west by Hawkesbury "West: on<br />
the south-west by Kenyon; and on the south-east by Lancaster, and a portion<br />
of Lower Canada. In Lochiel 53,886 acres are taken up, 8366 of which are<br />
under cultivation. The settlement of Alexandria, or Priest's Mills, is situated<br />
in the south-west corner of the township, on the River de LTsle. It contains a<br />
Catholic church: there are also Presbyterian and Baptist churches in the township,<br />
in a settlement called Breadalbane. Six hundred acres of Crown lands<br />
are open for sale in Lochiel, at S*. currency per acre. There are two grist and<br />
three saw mills in the township.<br />

LOGAN.<br />
A Township in the Huron District; is boimded on the north-east by Crown<br />
lands; on the north-west by the township of McKillop; on the south-west by<br />
Hibbert and EuUarton; and on the south-east by Ellice. The soil of Logan is<br />
mostly good. A branch of the River Thames runs through the township.<br />
Logan contains 55,551 acres, 2101 of which are leased or sold, of which 49 are<br />
under cultivation.<br />
