settling up fast. In Warwick 1,400 acres of Crown lands are open for<br />
sale, at 8,s-. c'y per acre.<br />
Population in 1845, 1,235, which includes the township of Bosanquet, in which<br />
are very few settli'rs.<br />

WAIIS.A.W<br />
A Village in the west of the township of Dummer, situated on the Indian<br />
River, fifteen miles north-east from Peterborough. It contains about seventy<br />
inhabitants, grist and saw mill, carding machine, two stores, and two taverns.<br />
WATERDOWN.<br />
A Village in the township of Fiamborough East, seven miles from Hamilton.<br />
It contains about 200 inhabitants, and a Methodist church.<br />
Post office, post twice a week.<br />
Profcxsions ami Trades.—Two grist mills, two saw do., carding machine and<br />
cloth factory, two stores, one tannery, two taverns, one saddler, one scythe<br />
factory, one cooper, one tailor, one shoemaker, one blacksmith.<br />
WATER FORD.<br />
A Village in about the centre of the township of Townsend, on the road<br />
leading from Simcoe to Brautford, seven miles from Sinicoe, and eighteen from<br />
Erantford. It is situated in a valley, surrounded by high hills, and the Nauticoke<br />
creek runs through the village.<br />
It contains about 150 inhabitants; who have a Baptist ChapeL<br />
Post Office, post every day.<br />

WATERLOO.<br />
A Township in the Wellington District; is bounded on the east by the townships<br />
of Puslinch and Guelph; on tlit north-west by Woolwich; on the west by<br />
Wilmot; and on the south by Dumfries. In Waterloo 82,825 acres are taken<br />
up, .30,026 of which are under cultivation. This is the best settled and most wealthy<br />
township in the Wellington District. It has been settled about forty years,<br />
almost entirely by Pennsylvanian Dutch and Germans, most of whom brought<br />
considerable capital with them into the country; and their farms are consequently<br />
well cleared, and they have excellent houses and farm buildings. They<br />
are a thrifty set, and are gradually increasing in wealth. Many of them cannot<br />
speak English. The land is mostly rolling, and the farms are generally well<br />
situated. The Grand Kiver runs through the centre of the township; and in<br />
the south of it is joined by the River Speed. Numerous other branches of<br />
the Grand River are spread over the tow nship. The villages of Preston, Waterloo,<br />
Little (Jermany, Glasgow, New Hope, Berlin, and Bridgeport are situated<br />
in the township. There are eight grist and twenty saw mills in the township.<br />

miles west from Kingston -the little (^ataraqui River runs through it. There<br />
