MARSHVILLE.<br />

A small Village in the township of Wainfleet, situated on the Grand River<br />

feeder of the "Welland Canal, ten miles from Port Colborne. It contains about<br />

sixty inhabitants, grist mill, two stores, one tavern, one blacksmith.<br />

Post Office, post three tunes a week.<br />

MARTIN TOWN.<br />

A Village in the west of the townsliip of Cliarlottenburgh, situated on the<br />

River aux Raisins, thirteen miles from Cornwall. It contains about 200 inhabitants,<br />

and one Presbyterian Church.<br />

Professions und Trades.-—One grist and saw mill, seven stores, one tavern,^<br />

four asheries, one saddler, one waggon maker, three blacksmiths, three tailors,<br />

three shoemakers.<br />

MARYBOROUGH.<br />

A Township in the Wellington District; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />

township of Arthur; on the north-west by unsurveyed lands ; on the south west<br />

by Morniiigtou; and on the south-east by Peel. This township has only lately<br />

been surveyed and laid out. and no return has yet been made from it. It for<br />

merly formed part of what was called the '* Queen's Bush."<br />

MARYSBURGH.<br />

A Township in the Prince Edward District ; is bounded on the north, east<br />

and south by the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario; and on the west by the<br />

townships of Ilallowell and Athol. In Marysburgh 38,202 acres are taken up,<br />

12,684 of which are under cultivation. A river, called " Black River," runs<br />

through tlie west of the township, from west to east, and enters Lake Ontario.<br />

In the north-west of the township is a small lake, called the " Lake of the<br />

Mountain," situated on the summit of a hill, at a considerable height above the<br />

level of Lake Ontario. A range of hills runs nearly across the north-east portion<br />

of the township. A large proportion of the land in the north-east of<br />

Marysburgh is good; but in the south-east it is generally poor, and is covered<br />

with cedar, a considerable quantity of which is exported. The village of Milford<br />

is situated in the west corner of the township; and there are three grist and<br />

ten saw mills in the township.<br />

Population in 1842, 2,207; who are principally \J. E. Loyalists and their<br />

descendants.<br />

MATCHADASH.<br />

A Township in the Simcoe District ; is bounded on the north and east by the<br />

River Severn; on the wi-^i by the townshij) of Tay; and on the south by Orillia.<br />

Very little is linown of this townshij) ; and in 1845 there was only one settler<br />

in it. There are 4(',0U0 acres of Crown lands open for sale in tlie townshiji, at<br />

Ss. currency per acre; to purchase which ai)plication must be made to the Crown<br />

lauds agent at Barrie.<br />

M.\T(MIA1)ASII BAY.<br />

A Hay at tlie south-eastern extremity of the Georgian Bay. On an island in<br />

the Bay, called Beausoleil Island, is a settlement of Chippewa Indians, wivo<br />

removed, under theu' chief " i\jsance." from the viUage of Coldwater. Tlicir
