SCARBOROUGIL<br />
A Township in the Home District; is bounded on tlie east by the township<br />
of Pickerinfi; on tlie north by Maritham; on the west by Yorii; and on the<br />
south by Lake Ontario. In Scarborough 38,709 acres are taken up, 1G,083 of<br />
which are under cultivation. Tiie River Don runs through the west of the<br />
township, and the River Rouge through the east. Tlie land l)ordering on the<br />
lake is nuistly poor, and the timlier princijjally pine; in the rear of the township<br />
the land improves, and the tini])er is mostly hardwood. Scarborough is well<br />
settled, and contains many good farms: a large portion of which are let to the<br />
occupants; the average rent being .l!2 per acre. There are one grist and<br />
ei^jhteen saw mills in the township, and large quiintities of sawed lumber are<br />
exported.<br />
Population in 1842, 2750; who are principally English, Irish, and Scotch<br />
emigrants.<br />

SCOTLAND,<br />
A Village in the south-west of the township of Oakland. It contains about<br />
150 inhabitants.<br />
Piqfetmions and Trades.—Two stores, two taverns, one tannery, one saddler,<br />
one chair maker, one cabinet maker, one blacksmith. There is a carding<br />
machine and fulling mill near the village.<br />
SCOTT.<br />
A Township in the Home District ; is bounded on the east by the townships<br />
of Reach and Brock ; on the north by Georgina ; on the west by East Gwillimbury;<br />
and on the south by Uxbridge. In Scott .5078 acres are taken up. 4.50<br />
of which are under cultivation. The township is well Matered by numerous<br />
small streams running through it. It is as yet but little settled. Six hundred<br />
acres of Crown lands are open for sale in Scott, at 8s. currency per acre.<br />

SELBORNE, or TALBOT MILLS.<br />
A Village in the townships of Yarmouth and Soutlnvold, situated on Kettle<br />
Creek, close to the plank road—one mile and half from Port Stanley.<br />
Professions and Trades.—One grist mill, two distilleries, one foundry, two<br />
physicians and surgeons, one druggist, two stores, two taverns, two blacksmiths,<br />
one waggon maker, one shoemaker, one tailor.<br />
SENECA.<br />
A Township in the Gore District , is bounded on the east by the to^mship of<br />
Canboro'; on the north-east by Caistor, Biubrook, and Glanford ; on the northwest<br />
by Onondaga ; on the south-west by the Grand River ; and on the southeast<br />
by the township of Cayuga. In Seneca 6182 acres are taken up. 3063 of<br />
which are under cultivation. There is a large proportion of good land in the<br />
township: it is mostly rolling; and the timber principally hardwood, with a<br />
small quantity of jiiue intermixed. There is abundance of fine large white-oak<br />
within convenient distances of the river. The villages of Caledonia, Seneca,<br />
York, and Indiana are in the townshi]i. all situated on the Grand River. There<br />
are four grist and eleven saw mills in the township; and large quantities of sawn<br />
lumber are exported from it.<br />
