EASTHOPE, NORTH.<br />
A Township in the Huron District ; is bouuded on the north-east by the<br />
townships of WelJesley and \^'ilmot, on the north-west by Eliice, and on<br />
the south by South Easthope. In North Easthope 28,216 acres are leased or<br />
gold, 4,172 of'whicli are uuder cultivation. Tlie Avon, a branch of the Thames,,<br />
runs through the south of the township, making its egress at the village of<br />
Stiatford. The Big Swanip encroaches on the north of this township.<br />
Population in 1844, 1,1.51.<br />

EDWARDSBURGH.<br />
A Township in the Johnstown District; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Matilda ; on the north by South Gower and Oxford ;<br />
on the west by<br />
Augusta ; and on the south by the River St. Lawrence. In Edwardsburgh<br />
31,557 acres are taken up, 7,748 of which are under cultivation. The land on<br />
tlie river is generally good, but back, for about seventeen miles, it is mostly<br />
poor, and much of it swampy, the farmers raising scarcely sufficient produce for<br />
their own consumption. In Edwardsburgh 950 acres of Crown lands are open<br />
for sale, at 8a. c'y per acre. There are three grist and six saw mills in the<br />
township.<br />

EGREMONT.<br />
A Township in the Wellington District ; is bounded on the east by the<br />
to^vnship of Proton ; on the north by Glenelg; on the west by Normanby; and<br />
(m the south by Arthur. This township has only lately been surveyed and laid<br />
ous and no return has yet been made from it.<br />
EKFRID.<br />
A Township in the London District ; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />
tr)wnship of Carradoc; on the north-west by Adelaide; on the south-west by<br />
^losa; and on the south-east by the River Thames. In Ekfrid 30,072 acres<br />
are taken up, 5,G55 of which are under cultivation. A large swamp occupies<br />
about a fourth of the township, and there is a considerable quantify of wet land,<br />
pai-ticularly in the north of the township. There is one saw-mill in Ekfrid.<br />

ELDON.<br />
A Township in the Colborne District ; is bounded on the east by the township<br />
of Fenelon; on the north by unsurveyed lands; on the west by Thorah ; and on<br />
tJje south by Mariposa. In Eldon 19,099 acres are taken uj), 2,875 of which are<br />
under cultivation. This township is well watered, and contains some good land.<br />
Id Eldon 2,100 acres of Crown lands are open for Sale, at 8s. c'y per acre.<br />

ELIZABETHTOWN.<br />
A Township in the Johnstown District ; is bounded on the east by the townghij)<br />
of Augusta; on the north by Kitley and Wolford ; on the west by Yonge;<br />
and on the south by the River St. Lawrence. In Elizabethtown 48,187 acres<br />
are taken up, 21,834 of whicli are under cultivation. There are four small lakes<br />
in the township, each containing about (500 acres, viz.— .fones' Pond. Lamb's<br />
Pond, Mud I,ake, and Atkin's Lake. The Petite Nation River takes its rise in<br />
tiiit towusiiip, nearly in tlie rear of Brockville; and the south branch of the
