PORTLAND.<br />
A small Villaf^e in the north oftlie township of Bastard, situated on the south<br />
of Ilideau Lake. It eoutains about 80 inhabitants, tannery, three stores, two<br />
taverns, one blacksmith.<br />
Post Office, post twice a week.<br />
PORT MAITLAND.<br />
A Settlement and Shipping-place at the mouth of the Grand River, on Lake<br />
Erie. It contains about .50 inhabitants, and an Episcopal church, two stores,<br />
two taverns, one tailor, one blacksmith.<br />
PORT NELSON.<br />
A small ViHaj^e in the township of Nelson, a mile and a half from Wellington<br />
Sijuare. It contains about GO inliabitants, one store, one tavern, one shoemaker.<br />
PORT ROYAL.<br />
A Settlement in the township of Walsingham, at the mouth of Big Creek,<br />
two miles and a half west from Port Rowan. It contains about .50 inhabitants,<br />
steam saw mill, one store, two taverns, one blacksmith, one waggon maker.<br />
PORT RYERSE.<br />
A small Settlement and Shipping-place in the township of Woodhouse, at the<br />
mouth of Ryerse's Creek, six miles from Simcoe, and four miles from Port<br />
Dover. It contains a saw mill, one store, and about half a dozen houses.<br />
PORT ROWAN.<br />
A small Village in the township of Walsingham, situated on Lake Erie, four<br />
miles west of St. Williams. It is a shipping-j)lace, and has a resident collector<br />
'of Customs. Population about 50. Post Office, post twice a week, one store,<br />
one tavern.<br />
PORT ROBINSON.<br />
A Village in the township of Thorold, situated on the Welland Canal, ten<br />
miles from St. Catharines. This place is the " head quarters" of the coloured<br />
<strong>com</strong>pany employed for the maintenance of order on the canal. There are two<br />
churches in the village. Episcopal and Presbyterian.<br />
Populntion, about .300.<br />
Post Office, post three times a-week.<br />

PORT STANLEY.<br />
A Village on Lake Erie, at the mouth of Kettle Creek, situated partly in the<br />
township of Southwold, and partly in Yarn\outh; the township being divided<br />
by Kettle Creek. It is nine miles from St. Thomas, and twenty-six from London;<br />
a plank road being formed between the two places. Port Stanley is<br />
beautifully situated, being in a valley surrounded by high and picturesque hills,<br />
and its harbour is well protected.<br />
