DALHOUSIE.<br />
A To-smship in the Bathiirst District; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />
township of Lanark; on the north-west by Levant; on the south-west by<br />
Sherbrooke; and on the south-east by Bathurst. In Dalhousie 23,440 acres* are<br />
taken up, 8,112* of which are under cuhivation. Two small branches of the<br />
River Clyde stretch across the north of the township, and the north branch of<br />
file Mississippi runs through the south of the township from west to east. At<br />
its entrance into the township it expands into a lake, containing about 1,200<br />
acres, and its course is very tortuous and irregular. Several small lakes are<br />
scattered over the township. The base of a large portion of the north and east<br />
of the township is marble of different shades of colour, varying from pure white<br />
to dark grey. In Dalhousie 17,200 acres of Crown lands are open for sale,<br />
at 8s. c'y per acre. In the township are one grist and two saw mills.<br />

DARLING.<br />
A Township in the Bathurst District ; is bounded on the north-east by the<br />
township of Pakenham ; on the north-west by Bagot ; on the south-west by<br />
Levant; and on the south-east by Lanark. In Darling 5,094 acres are taken up,<br />
1,257 of which are under cuhivation. Tlie River Clyde runs through the south<br />
of the township from west to east ; and a large lake called Wabalae, or White<br />
Lake, stretches across the north corner of the township ; and a number of<br />
smaller lakes are scattered over the township. Darling is as yet but little<br />
settled, and in 1842 contained only 271 inhabitants. Thirty-four thousand eight<br />
hundred acres of Crown lands are open for sale in Darling, at Ss. c'y per acre.<br />

A Shipping Place on Lake Ontario, one mile and a half from the village of<br />
Bowmanville ; it contains a few houses, storehouses for storing produce, and a<br />
tavern.<br />

DARLINGTON.<br />
A Township in the Newcastle District ; is boimded on the east by the townrfiip<br />
of Clarke; on the north by Cartwright; on the west by Whitby; and on<br />
tlie south by Lake Ontario. In Darlington 55,205 acres are taken up, 19,364<br />
of which are under cultivation. The township is well watered by numerons<br />
small streams running inio tlie lake. 'I'he village of ]5owinanville is situated<br />
in the south-ea.st corner of the townshij) on the eastern road. This is an old,<br />
well-settled towiisliip, containing good farms, many of which arc rented out, ths<br />
average rent luiiig about $2. per acre. The land is of good average (luality,<br />
