COORDINATED HUMAN SERVICES-PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PLAN<br />
2.1 Promote policies that increase the quantity <strong>of</strong><br />
public transit, paratransit and specialized<br />
transportation provided.<br />
2.1.1 Promote policies to expand availability <strong>of</strong> specialized transportation<br />
later into weekday evenings, earlier in the mornings and on Saturdays and<br />
Sundays.<br />
2.1.1 Review policies related to token, bus pass and day passes programs<br />
to enhance the capabilities <strong>of</strong> programs serving low-income populations to get<br />
more trips to these consumers...<br />
2.1.3 Promote brokered specialized transportation services such as<br />
extending pooling <strong>of</strong> resources through contractual relationships, vanpooling<br />
and other strategies.<br />
2.1.4 Promote the Call for Projects to strengthen the service provision<br />
capabilities <strong>of</strong> successful applicants, in areas that may include centralized<br />
maintenance, shared dispatch, joint vehicle procurement, parts or supplies<br />
procurement or insurance pool capabilities<br />
2.1.5 Identify and encourage private sector responses to specialized<br />
transportation needs, including taxi, jitney and commercial operator options.<br />
2.2 Identify and invest in strategies to improve the<br />
quality <strong>of</strong> specialized transportation, with attention to<br />
meeting individualized needs.<br />
2.2.1 Promote coordination among public transit entities around coordinated<br />
policies <strong>of</strong> core service hours and days, standardized fares, consistent transfer<br />
policies and establishing common timeframes for schedule changes.<br />
2.2.2 Promote successful technology applications that improve paratransit ontime<br />
performance, customer communication and bus pass/ bus token purchase<br />
capabilities for target populations.<br />
2.2.3 Establish driver training programs, tools, modules or resources that<br />
emphasize effectively meeting individualized needs <strong>of</strong> the target populations.<br />
2.2.4 Develop and promote specialized transportation projects to address doorto-door,<br />
door-through-door and escorted transportation needs.<br />
2.2.5 Support same-day transportation innovations.<br />
