SAN LUIS OBISPO REGION<br />

COORDINATED HUMAN SERVICES-PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PLAN<br />

Cooperative Agreements or Arrangements<br />

Agreements between agencies were identified by survey respondents in nine instances, and<br />

these included:<br />

• Between the City <strong>of</strong> Atascadero and Escuela Del Rio in relation to dial-a-ride and with<br />

Cuesta College in relation to fixed route services;<br />

• Between the Cities <strong>of</strong> Paso Robles and Atascadero for the North County Shuttle;<br />

• Between Coast Unified School District and several schools in adjacent service areas;<br />

• Between Work Training Program, Inc. and Ride-On for services;<br />

• Between Ride-On and Tri-Counties Regional Center to provide services;<br />

• Between Tri-Counties Regional Center and Smooth Transportation, as well as Ride-On<br />

for contract operations;<br />

• Between Ride-On and Cambria Community Council for limited vehicle maintenance;<br />

• Between Life Steps Foundation and Ride-On as well as RSVP.<br />

Open-Ended Comments<br />

Twenty-one agencies replied to the query “Please describe other needs or unmet transportation<br />

needs in <strong>San</strong> <strong>Luis</strong> <strong>Obispo</strong> County:” These responses are noted below:<br />

Expanded public transit services:<br />

• Expanded Saturday and adding Sunday hours for Morro Bay Dial-a-Ride (City <strong>of</strong> Moro<br />

Bay)<br />

• Expanded weekend services (Cayucos Senior Club)<br />

• More frequent and more stops for RTA routes in North Coast and in 5 cities area (Tri<br />

Counties Regional Center)<br />

• Expanded countywide service availability (Dept <strong>of</strong> Social Services –Adult Div.)<br />

• More buses and more scheduling (Senior Legal Services Project)<br />

• Loop routes not all having to go Downtown and having to transfer to another bus/ route<br />

(Dept. <strong>of</strong> Social Services – CalWORKS)<br />

• Evening service for Cuesta College students at both campuses – SLO and NC<br />

• Adequate public transit to the Twin Cities Medical Center which is the only in-patient<br />

hospital in the North County (Templeton Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce)<br />

• Need to serve isolated senior housing facility, Villa Paseo (Ramada Rd. along Hwy<br />

101) which is in the middle <strong>of</strong> a commercial service district and 2 miles for medical<br />

facilities (Templeton Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce).<br />

• Commuter express buses needed for intercity transportation (SLOCOG Citizens<br />

Advisory Committee member)<br />

• Improved bus connections between SLO and other cities (Alpha Pregnancy Counseling<br />

and Support)<br />

Needs for special rider groups:<br />

• Dialysis patients living outside <strong>of</strong> ¾ mile fixed route limit and not eligible for MediCal<br />

transportation may be unable to get to treatment, without moving (Kidney Dialysis<br />

Center)<br />

• Youth transportation (Aspira Foster and Family Services)<br />

• Transportation assistance and training for people with mental illness (Transitions Mental<br />

Health)<br />

• Until [seniors] medical appointment needs and food shopping needs are met, we should<br />

just focus on these (Caring Callers Senior Volunteer Services)<br />
