4.5.2 EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLRemoving natural vegetation and topsoil during construction leaves bare soilareas susceptible to erosion, transforms existing drainage areas, and disturbssensitive areas. BMPs such as silt fence, fiber rolls and drain inlet protectionshould serve as a last line of defense against stormwater pollution. While theseBMPs are effective at preventing large particles from leaving a construction site,they must be carefully installed and maintained in order to be effective.
