• These petroleum products shall be kept in non-leaking containers on animpermeable surface and covered in a manner that will prevent stormwaterfrom contacting the container.• Leaking containers shall be emptied promptly upon detection, either bytransferring the product to a non-leaking container or by disposing of it inthe “used oil” container.• Used oil shall be stored in a clearly marked non-leaking container on animpermeable surface, and covered in a manner that will prevent stormwaterfrom contacting the container.• Oil spills shall be prevented from leaving the area by means of a berm orretaining structure. 74• Waste gasoline shall be stored in a non-leaking container, on animpermeable surface and covered to prevent stormwater from contacting thecontainer. The container shall be clearly labeled “waste gasoline” and thestorage location should conform to local Fire Codes.• Whenever possible, waste gasoline shall be filtered and used as a fuel. Wastegasoline shall not be allowed to evaporate; poured on the ground; disposedof in storm sewers or discharged to surface waters.• If necessary, waste gasoline shall be removed from the site by a licensedHAZMAT transporter.• Boat maintenance facilities are required to obtain a stormwater permit anddevelop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. The permit applicationmust identify the type of operations taking place at the facility and describethe volume and flow of stormwater on the facility grounds. Liquid wastesshall never be discharged into a storm sewer, sanitary sewer, or into surfacewaters. Facility personnel shall be trained to take proper care when handlingthese products and spills. 75• Boats that are equipped with bilge pumps, either manual or automatic, candischarge bilge water into the lake. Bilge water may be contaminated withwaste petroleum products, and if not properly decontaminated prior tolaunch may also contain AIS. The use of bilge sponges will reduce theamount of petroleum based contaminates discharged into the lake duringpump operation. Bilge sponges shall be made available to the public atmarinas, boat ramps, and other public boat launch facilities. Boat launchfacilities shall maintain hazardous materials depots available to the public fordisposal of spent bilge sponges. 7674B.C.
