percent vegetative cover, soil surface cover, plant survival, soil penetrability, and absence of any visual signs of erosion. If monitoring indicates that successcriteria are not met, causal factors should be determined and remediationactions taken. This section must describe those remediation actions to be takenshould the revegetation not meet the success criteria.Additional items needed to conclude the project may include as-built drawings, clean up provisions, and scheduling final inspections to evaluate performancestandards.During the final inspection, inspectors will use the criteria listed in theapproved Revegetation Plan in addition to visual assessments of vegetationestablishment to determine project success. Please note that establishment ofvegetation generally takes between two and three complete (May – September)growing seasons.5.4.2 FERTILIZER MANAGEMENT PLANLarge properties with over 1 cumulative acre of turf, existing or proposed, ORas needed to address current or anticipated impacts to water quality, SEZs,shorezone, and other sensitive areas, must account for their fertilizer usethrough a Fertilizer Management Plan. If more than 1 acre of turf is proposedas part of a revegetation project, incorporate elements of the FertilizerManagement Plan into the Revegetation Plan.5.4.2.1 FERTILIZER MANAGEMENT PLAN ELEMENTSTYPE(S) OF FERTILIZERState the type and formula of fertilizer to be used. Organic and other slowrelease fertilizers are strongly encouraged over fast release or traditionalfertilizers. Fertilizer formula is typically expressed as a ratio of Nitrogen (N),Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K).SOILS TESTINGProvide soil analysis (from within two years) for nutrients (minimallyphosphorus and nitrogen) that supports fertilizer use and justifies fertilizerformula. For example, if soils results show no phosphorus deficiency, chemicalfertilizer formula should contain no phosphorus. Proposed phosphorus use forturf/lawn maintenance must be supported by soils analysis results.RATES AND MEANS OF APPLICATIONState the rate fertilizer will be applied (pound/acre) and the means ofapplication (e.g. fertilizer spreader). Fertilizer rate should be supported by soilsanalysis.TIMING AND FREQUENCYDescribe the timing and frequency of fertilizer application. Fertilizer shouldonly be applied in early summer when vegetation is actively growing.CHAPTER 5: Soil and Vegetation ManagementTRPA BMP HandbookPage 5-24 2012
