(c) GRADING AND SLOPE SHAPINGDescribe what grading or earth moving activities are required for the revegetationproject. Land alteration activities involving more than 3 cubic yards must be permittedthrough TRPA. Soil preparation on slopes may require physical modification or surfaceroughening.(d) SOIL LOOSENINGDescribe physical activities required to restore soil infiltration capacity and aeration tocompacted soil areas. To reduce soil compaction, first remove topsoil. Then loosensubgrade of compacted soil areas to an average depth of 12-inches. Soil loosening may beperformed with hand tools (such as a pick mattock or Pulaski) or a mini excavatorequipped with backhoe bucket. Soil should be loosened but not turned or inverted. Soilloosening should also be uneven in depth by at least 1-2 inches to reduce the chance ofsoil slumping. Avoid existing plants and tree roots.(e) SOIL AMENDMENTS/FERTILIZERDescribe the type, quantity, and application rate of any soil amendments or fertilizersused to improve physical, chemical, or biological properties of the soil. Summarize soiltesting results, including nutrients (e.g. phosphorus and nitrogen), with soilconcentrations specified in the results and, if applicable, in the fertilizer managementplan(f) WEED CONTROLDescribe measures necessary to eradicate and/or prevent the spread of weeds on-site.Provisions should include the method, frequency, and extent of weed control activities.List noxious weeds potentially susceptible for the project area and train staff to identifyand remove them before they can produce viable seed. More information on weedidentification and prevention can be found at the Lake Tahoe Basin Weed CoordinatingGroup website: www.tahoeinvasiveweeds.org.4. Installation of Plant MaterialsDescribe installation methods and provide a plan to scale depicting density, arrangement, and locations of plant materials used. Proper handling and storage of plant materials shouldalso be addressed here. Plant materials may include transplants of existing plants salvagedduring the site preparation process, cuttings, containers of trees, shrubs, and herbaceousplants, as well as seed selected from the Site Type Recommended Species List, Site TypeRecommended Seed Mixes, and TRPA Approved Plant Species Attributes Table.5. IrrigationDescribe the irrigation methods necessary for vegetation establishment. Methods range fromhand watering to drip, bubbler, and spray irrigation systems. Include where the irrigationwater will come from. Outline system components, timing (including timing of removal, ifapplicable), application rates, and any maintenance needs to ensure systems are operationaland effective.6.
