8.3.3 Data collection techniques<br />

Data was collected using an open-ended interview schedule and a tape<br />

recorder. As key informants in both Kenya and South Africa understood<br />

English, the interviewer used the English language as the language <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency. (Please refer to Appendix B (I) for example <strong>of</strong> interview<br />

schedule)<br />

8.3.4 Data analysis and presentation<br />

In this study, open-ended responses and recorded interviews were analysed<br />

using content analysis methodology.<br />

8.4 Case Study Findings<br />

8.4.1 Goals/mission <strong>of</strong> organizations<br />

The respondents were asked about the goal/mission <strong>of</strong> their respective<br />

organisations. The aim <strong>of</strong> this question was to gain a general understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> the four organisations working with ICTs and rural women.<br />

According to the NCRF respondent, the NCRF is a national, membership­<br />

driven association <strong>of</strong> community radio stations and support service<br />

organizations whose goal/mission is to encourage the active participation <strong>of</strong><br />

diverse local communities in the development <strong>of</strong> programming activities for<br />

sustainable non-discriminatory local development.<br />

While the AfriAfya respondent reported that the goal/mission <strong>of</strong> AfriAfya was<br />

to equip women in rural areas with adequate information that could assist<br />

them with their everyday problems, Women'snet respondents stated that<br />
