SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS<br />

10.1 Introduction<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> this chapter is to summarize the research findings, to<br />

propose recommendations that may, in future, be used when implementing<br />

ICTs for rural development amongst rural women, and to suggest items for<br />

further research. The chapter is divided into an introduction, summary,<br />

conclusion and recommendations.<br />

The research objectives were to:<br />

1. Explore, analyze and compare ICT development, policies and<br />

strategies in Kenya and South Africa.<br />

2. Audit and map ICT use amongst rural women in Kenya and South<br />

Africa.<br />

3. Identify the ICT information needs and e-services <strong>of</strong> rural women in<br />

areas such as health, education, agriculture, social welfare,<br />

entertainment, commerce and industry, in both Kenya and South<br />

Africa.<br />

4. Identify barriers faced by women when accessing and using ICTs.<br />

5. Analyze and determine the ICT training needs <strong>of</strong> rural women in Kenya<br />

and South Africa.<br />

6. Develop and propose a model for ICT development and application for<br />

rural women in Kenya.<br />

10.2 Summary <strong>of</strong> the findings<br />

The findings <strong>of</strong> the study are summarized according to the respective<br />

research objectives and research questions.<br />
