GABIONS AND REVET MATTRESSESDescription253.01 This work consists of constructing gabion structures and revetmattresses.Material253.02 Conform to the following Subsections:Backfill material 704.03Gabion and revet mattress material 720.02Gabion and revet mattress rock 705.01Geotextile type IV 714.01Structural backfill 704.04Construction Requirements253.03 General. Survey according to Section 152 and verify the limits of thewall installation. Prepare and submit installation drawings according toSubsection 104.03. Perform the work under Section 209.253.04 Basket Assembly. Do not damage wire coatings during basket assembly,structure erection, cell filling, or backfilling. Rotate the basket panels intoposition and join the vertical edges with fasteners according to Subsection253.05. Temporary fasteners may be used for basket assembly if they aresupplemented during structure erection with permanent fasteners according toSubsection 253.05.Rotate the diaphragms into position and join the vertical edges according toSubsection 253.05.253.05 Structure Erection. Place the empty gabion baskets on thefoundation and interconnect the adjacent baskets along the top and verticaledges using permanent fasteners.Where lacing wire is used, wrap the wire with alternating single and doubleloops every other mesh opening and not more than 6 inches apart. Wherespiral binders are used, crimp the ends to secure the binders in place. Wherealternate fasteners are used, space the fasteners in every mesh opening and notmore than 6 inches apart.162
