BRIDGE RAILINGDescription556.01 This work consists of furnishing and erecting and removing and resettingbridge railing.Bridge railing is designated as concrete, steel, aluminum, or timber accordingto the predominant material contained in the railing.Material556.02 Conform to the following Sections and Subsections:Aluminum alloy bolt heads and nuts 717.14Aluminum alloy for bridge rail 717.13Aluminum-impregnated caulking compound 725.28Aluminum welding wire 717.15Box beam rail 710. 07Concrete 552Painting 563Reinforcing steel 709. 01Structural steel 555Timber 557Construction Requirements556.03 General. Accurately place anchor bolts to provide correct and truealignment of the railing. Set anchor bolts so that they project not more than0.375 inches beyond the nut when tightened. Chamfer or round by grindingor filing all sharp exposed metal edges.Do not erect railing until centering or falsework for the supporting span isremoved. Construct bridge railing so that it does not follow any unevennessin the curb, sidewalk, or wall that supports the railing. The railing shall presenta smooth, uniform appearance in its final position. Set all posts vertical.556.04 Concrete Railing. Construct according to Section 552.453
