Section 718Use opaque or transparent colors, inks, and paints in the screen process ofthe type and quality recommended by the retroreflective sheetingmanufacturer.Perform the screening in a manner that results in a uniform color and tone,with sharply defined edges of legends and borders and without blemishes onthe sign background that will affect intended use.Air dry or bake the signs after screening according to manufacturer's recommendationsto provide a smooth hard finish. Any signs with blisters or otherblemishes will be rejected.(b) Type L-3 (direct applied characters). Cut letters, numerals, symbols,borders, and other features of the sign message from the type and color of theretroreflective sheeting specified and apply to the sign background's retroreflectivesheeting according to the retroreflective sheeting manufacturer'sinstructions. For the retroreflective sheeting minimum coefficient of retroreflection(R A ), conform to ASTM D 4956.718.12 Delineator and Object Marker Retroreflectors. Furnish type 1 ortype 2 retroreflectors that are ready for mounting. Furnish antitheft hardwarefor mounting as required.(a) Type 1 (acrylic plastic lens). Furnish a 7-square-inch minimum acrylicplastic lens with prismatic optical elements and a smooth, clear, transparentface. Fabricate the back from similar material and fuse it to the lens aroundthe entire perimeter to form a homogenous unit. Permanently seal the unitsagainst the intrusion of dust, water or air.
