Section 501(2) Side form construction. Furnish mechanical, self-propelled spreadingand finishing machines capable of compacting and finishing theconcrete with minimal hand finishing. Equip the machine with one18-inch minimum width screed with compensating springs to minimizethe effect of the screed's momentum on the side forms, or 2 independentlyoperated screeds.Coordinate the number of driving wheels, power of the motor, and themachine's mass to prevent slippage. Any machine which displaces theside forms will not be permitted.(3) Vibrators. Furnish internal immersed tube or multiple spud typevibrators for all paving more than 8 inches thick. Surface pan type vibratorsare acceptable for full-width concrete consolidation of slabs 8 inchesor less in thickness. Attach vibrators to the spreader or finishing machineor mount on a separate carriage. For construction of irregular areas, usehand held vibrators according to Subsection 552.11(d).(c) Joint sealing. Furnish sealing equipment according to the sealant manufacturer'srecommendations.(d) Joints and concrete removal. Furnish an adequate supply of concretesaws with sufficient power to saw full-depth and complete the work withwater-cooled, diamond-edged blades, or abrasive wheels. Equip saws withblade guards and guides or devices to control alignment and depth. Furnishand maintain stand-by equipment and an adequate supply of replacementblades or wheels.(e) Concrete removal. Furnish concrete saws, drop hammers, hydrohammers,and jack hammers to break concrete. Concrete saws shall conform to (d)above. Ball-drop breakers are not permitted.Furnish equipment that will not damage the subgrade, subbase, base, orexisting concrete slabs designated to remain.If new or existing slabs, not scheduled for replacement, are chipped,spalled, or damaged during the removal operations, replace the damagedslabs.326
