Section 551(b) Dynamic formula. Drive the piles to a penetration necessary to obtainthe ultimate pile capacity according to the following formula:Where:RU = 1.6 eE log 10 (10N) - 100RU = Ultimate pile capacity in kipsE = Manufacturer's rated hammer energy in foot/pounds at theram stroke observed or measured in the fieldlog(10N) = logarithm to the base 10 of the quantity 10 multiplied byNe = Hammer efficiency factorUse: 0.72 for all diesels0.67 for conventional single acting ECH (externalcombustion hammers), including rope drivenhammers0.50 for conventional double acting ECH0.95 for free fall rams or hammers with internallymeasured impact velocitiesN = Number of hammer blows per inch at final penetration(1) Jetted piles. Determine the inplace ultimate capacity of jetted pilesbased on impact hammer blow counts (dynamic formula) after the jetpipes have been removed. After the pile penetration length necessary toproduce the required ultimate pile capacity has been determined by impacthammer blow count, install the remaining piles in each group or ineach substructure unit to similar depths with similar methods. Confirmthe required ultimate pile capacity has been achieved by using the dynamicformula.(2) Conditions for dynamic formula. The dynamic formula is applicableonly if all of the following apply:(a) The hammer is in good condition and operating in a satisfactorymanner.(b) The hammer ram falls freely.(c) A follower is not used.(d) The head of the pile is not broomed or crushed.361
