CURB AND GUTTERDescription609.01 This work consists of constructing or resetting of curb, combinationcurb and gutter, or wheelstops.Stone curb is designated as type I or II according to Subsection 705.06.Material609.02 Conform to the following Sections and Subsections:Asphalt mixtures 402Bed course 704.09Concrete 601Joint filler 712.01Mortar 712.05Precast concrete curbing 725.06Reinforcing steel 709.01Stone curbing 705.06Construction Requirements609.03 General. Perform excavation and backfill work under Section 209.Place and compact the bed course material. Compact the bed course with atleast three passes of a lightweight mechanical tamper, roller, or vibratorysystem.609.04 Stone and Precast Concrete Curb. Clean the curb material thoroughlyand wet it just before setting. Set the curb in bed course so the faceand top lines are to line and grade. Make the joints 0.5 to 1 inches wide andfill the joints with mortar.Complete the first 25 feet of curb to demonstrate the ability to build a curbmeeting these requirements. Do not continue construction until the 25-foottest section is approved.Where a concrete pavement is constructed contiguous to the curb, constructthe joints in the curb directly in line with the pavement expansion joints.550
