Section 564564.06 Masonry, Sole, and Shim Plates for Bearings. Provide metal platesused in masonry, sole, and shim plates, conforming to AASHTO M 270grade 36.Fabricate and finish steel according to Section 555. Form holes in bearingplates by drilling, punching, or accurately controlled oxygen cutting. Removeall burrs by grinding.Accurately set bearing plates in level position as shown on the drawings andprovide a uniform bearing over the bearing contact area. When plates areembedded in concrete, make provision to keep them in correct position as theconcrete is placed.564.07 Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) Surfaces for Bearings. Furnish TFEmaterial that is factory-bonded, mechanically connected, or recessed into thebackup material as shown on the plans.Bond or mechanically attach the fabric containing TFE fibers to a rigid substrate.Use a fabric capable of carrying unit loads of 10,000 pounds per squareinch without cold flow. Use a fabric-substrate bond capable of withstanding, without delamination, a shear force equal to 10 percent of the perpendicularor normal application loading plus any other bearing shear forces.Determine compliance using approved test methods and procedures accordingto Section 18, Subsection 18.8.3, AASHTO Standard Specifications for HighwayBridges Division II, Volume II. If the test facility does not permit testingcompleted bearings, manufacture extra bearings and prepare samples of atleast 100 kip capacity at normal working stresses.Determine static and dynamic coefficient of friction at first movement of thetest bearing at a sliding speed of less than 1 inch per minute. The coefficientof friction shall not exceed the coefficient of friction as specified in Table564-1 or by the manufacturer.Furnish a listing of all individual bearing numbers.505
