Section 629.) EROSION CONTROL MATS, ROVING,AND CELLULAR CONFINEMENT SYSTEMSDescription629.01 This work consists of constructing erosion control for ditch and slopeprotection, and stabilization. This includes installing mats, roving, and cellularconfinement systems.Erosion control mats are designated as follows:Type 1Type 2Type 3Type 4Type 5Straw mats, burlap fabric, jute mesh, and woven paper or sisalmesh nettingStraw and coconut mats, excelsior blanket, or mulch blanketCoconut matSynthetic erosion control mats and meshesTurf reinforcement matsMaterial629.02 Conform to the following Sections and Subsections:Erosion control mats713.07(a)Emulsified asphalt 702.03Cellular confinement systems713.07(c)Roving713.07(b)Topsoil 624Turf establishment 625Construction Requirements629.03 Erosion Control Mats (Types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). Install erosioncontrol mats according to the manufacturer's recommendations.Install erosion control mats to soil surfaces which are at final grade, stable,firm, and free of rocks or other obstructions. Spread erosion control matsevenly and smoothly, without stretching, to ensure direct contact with the soilat all points. Unroll erosion control mats parallel to the drainage flow direction.Lap edges as recommended by the manufacturer. Place the upslope endin a 6-inch vertical slot. Backfill the slot and compact.626
