Section 720Fabricate gabion baskets in the dimensions required with a dimensiontolerance of ±5 percent. Where the length of the basket exceeds 1.5 timesits width, equally divide the basket into cells less than or equal to thebasket width using diaphragms of the same type and size mesh as thebasket panels. Prefabricate each basket with the necessary panels and diaphragmssecured so they rotate into place.(2) Revet mattresses (less than 1 foot in the vertical dimension).Fabricate the mesh from nominal-sized 0.086-inch or greater diameterwire.(a) Twisted wire mesh. Form the mesh in a uniform hexagonal patternwith nonraveling double twists. Tie the perimeter edges of the meshfor each panel to a 0.11-inch or greater diameter selvedge wire. Makethe selvedge at least the same strength as the body of the mesh. Furnishselvedge wire from the same type of material used for the wiremesh.(b) Welded wire mesh. Weld each connection to obtain a minimumaverage weld shear strength of 292 pounds with no value less than 225pounds.Fabricate revet baskets in the dimensions required with a dimension toleranceof ±5 percent in length and width and ±10 percent in height. Wherethe length of the basket exceeds 0.5 times its width, equally divide thebasket into cells less than or equal to 0.5 times the basket width using diaphragmsof the same type and size mesh as the mattress panels. Prefabricateeach basket with the necessary panels and diaphragms secured sothey rotate into place.(3) Polyvinyl chloride coated baskets. Use either a fusion bonded orextruded coating to coat the galvanized or aluminized mesh. Conform tothe following:(a) ColorBlack or gray(b) Thickness0.015 inches min.(c) Specific gravity, ASTM D 792 1.20 to 1.40(d) Tensile strength, ASTM D 638M 2,300 psi min.(e) Modulus of elasticity, ASTM D 638M 2,000 psi min.at 100 strain(f) Hardness - shore "A", ASTM D 2240 75 min.766
