Commentary: Notes on the cover read “Scr[ipsit] May 26, 1796,” and “Preached
in St Paul’s, B[altimore] A M, May 29, 1796. [St. Paul’s] & Xt Ch [, Baltimore],
Je [June] 5, 1808.” Bend noted on the front cover that the sermon was for
“Whitsunday.” This sermon is written on larger paper and in a larger handwriting
than the other sermons of this period, but it is in Bend’s handwriting. At the bottom
of page 25 is a pencilled addition inviting the congregation to holy communion.
Pages 18-23 contain a plea for Christian unity. The last page of the sermon contains
a list of baptisms to be recorded in the parish register.

in St Paul’s, Balto. July 15, 1792. at Fells-pt. [Baltimore] Feb. 11, 1795. in St Paul’s,
B[altimore] P M, Sep 6, [17]95. Xt Ch, [Baltimore] May 2, 1802. [Christ Church] &
St Paul’s, [Baltimore] Feb 18, [18]10.” The sermon is somewhat dog-eared, and the
cover is frayed, but the text is complete. The last page of the sermon contains a list
of baptisms to be recorded in the parish register.
