[probably “visitation of Bishop Thomas Claggett,” as correspondence shows that
a visit was contemplated at about that time, and the Convention of the Diocese
met in St. Paul’s, Baltimore, May 20, 1812.] Presumably Bend thought particularly
well of this sermon, since he preached it when he was away in New Jersey and
apparently before Bishop Claggett and others who assembled for the Diocesan
Convention in 1812. The sermon ends with an appeal to partake worthily of Holy
Communion as a means of receiving the Holy Spirit’s grace. Page 30 of the sermon
is written inside the front cover.
