Commentary: Notes on the cover read “Fin[ished] Novr. 2, 1798,” and “Preached in
St Paul’s & Xt Ch [, Baltimore,] June 23, 1799. Xt Ch & St Paul’s [, Baltimore,] July
24, 1808.” Bend’s increasing use of abbreviations and contractions—at times a kind
of shorthand—makes reading somewhat difficult, but the overall meaning is usually
clear. The last page of the sermon contains a list of baptisms to be recorded in the
parish register.
