Commentary: This sermon was preached at the funeral <strong>of</strong> an unnamed matron.<br />

Cradock contends that it is a Christian duty to attend the dead and to examine<br />

their faults as an opportunity to learn from them. He concludes the sermon with<br />

an exhortation to come to the defense <strong>of</strong> the country’s “barbarous and inhumane<br />

Design in afflicting good men.” An undecipherable abbreviation is placed above the<br />
