last page <strong>of</strong> the sermon contains a list <strong>of</strong> baptisms to be recorded in the parish<br />

register. One leaf (two pages), numbered “12 1/2,” was inserted later between pages<br />

12 and 13. This inserted leaf deals with the need for order and peace in society and<br />

warns against mob violence threatening the government and dividing the citizens.<br />

This addition was probably inserted for one <strong>of</strong> the latest preachings <strong>of</strong> the sermon,<br />

when Baltimore was increasingly referred to as “Mob Town.”<br />

<strong>of</strong> baptisms to be recorded in the parish register. One <strong>of</strong> the baptisms notes is that<br />

<strong>of</strong> “Elisha — [son <strong>of</strong>] George & Jenny, Slaves.” This is one <strong>of</strong> the sermons in which<br />

Bend made extensive use <strong>of</strong> underlining for emphasis in delivery.<br />
