Commentary: A note at the head in an unidentified hand reads “good for Whit-<br />

Sunday or Monday Credo in Spiritum Sanctum.” A note at the end reads “Preach<br />

at Bohemia ye 3d Sund. <strong>of</strong> 10r. 1750 At Newtown on Whitsunday 1753 At J.<br />

Wrights 1757 Pent-Monday.” Lewis, a Jesuit until the suppression in 1773, served in<br />

Maryland from 1750 until his death.<br />

Commentary: A note at the head reads “St. Inigo’s 1768.” Another note, also in the<br />

hand <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Sylvester Boarman cited the biblical text in Latin: “Ecce Magi<br />

ab Oriente venerunt Jerosolimam dicentes ubi est qui natus est Rex Judaeorum?<br />

Vidimus enim Stellam ejus in oriente et Venimus adorare eum.” Emendations and<br />

additions throughout are in the hand <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Sylvester Boarman. Lewis, a Jesuit<br />

until the suppression in 1773, served in Maryland from 1750 until his death.<br />
