[18]06.” The back cover is stained, but the text is not affected. In the biblical text,<br />

Bend originally wrote “exercise,” which he later lined through and corrected to<br />

“meditate.” Bend did not use closing quotation marks after his biblical quotation.<br />

against procrastination and carelessness in daily affairs reflects the businesslike<br />

methods <strong>of</strong> Bend, noted for his sense <strong>of</strong> order and attention to detail. It probably<br />

also illustrates Bend’s methods in teaching his children.<br />
