A seguir, tece considerações
quero poder tocar outras coisas. Obviamente, minha música não pode ser tocada
nesses órgãos, mas ainda existem alguns grandes órgãos e a minha música é
frequentemente tocada mesmo assim (SAMUEL; MESSIAEN, 1994: 24, tradução
nossa) 7.
5 “[...] for the world premiere of Méditations sur le mystère de la Sainte Trinité at the great National
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., I arrived ten days ahead of time to study
the organ’s layout and to find my timbres and note them in the score. At the end of the concert, which
drew an audience of several thousand to the basilica, some people told me they had never heard those
timbres and had been surprised by the instrument’s undreamt-of possibilities, but it was just the result
of long work.” (SAMUEL; MESSIAEN, 1994: 23).
6 “No, it requires large instruments that possess varied timbres and mixtures and, particularly, those
that have sixteen-foot stops on the manuals.” (SAMUEL; MESSIAEN, 1994: 24).
7 “The electric combinations are taken out on the pretext of authenticity, and one is deprived of an
extremely useful asset; the sixteen-foot flue stops on the manuals are removed because they didn’t
exist in the baroque era, and the tonal palette is completely destroyed. The number of mixtures is
increased and the powerful reed stops eliminated for a romantic sound. Thus, you cannot play anything
on the new instruments but Frescobaldi or Nicolas de Grigny, which is a bit restrictive after all! I love
those composers – but even so, I want to be able to play other things. Obviously, my own music
